International Internship Specialist

General summary

Coordinates internships abroad for University students and for international students traveling to the U.S.

Major duties

  • Develops and arranges future corporation-specific internship opportunities with large multi-national corporations. Coordinates international internship programs for the University. Develops procedures for companies, students and University participation. Collaborates with employers and University offices to develop relationships.
  • Oversees and advises students in all stages of the internship application process, including program selection, eligibility, University processes and credit transfer. Educates students in international financial and educational systems. Evaluates foreign university credits for transfer.
  • Serves as the primary contact for all aspects of participation in an international internship, including but not limited to contracts, resumes, cover letters, accommodation and evaluation. Collaborates with University department staff to develop and provide pre-internship training and tips on issues such as cultural adjustment and living and working abroad.
  • Develops strong relationships for the success of the program with University departments and stakeholders.
  • Promotes internship opportunities to prospective participants.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • One year’s relevant experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of U.S. immigration policies and regulations.
  • Knowledge of international educational systems and structures.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
