General summary

Coordinates and provides assistance with art exhibition operations.

Major duties

  • Works closely with director of exhibitions, faculty, development staff, donors and patrons. Maintains collection database.
  • Assists with exhibition preparation and installation. Orders materials and supplies for gallery. Coordinates installation of artwork and equipment including art handling, packing and shipping.
  • Negotiates and maintains fine arts insurance coverage for works on loan to the Richmond Center for Visual Arts. Processes related contracts, loan agreement forms and invoices. Collects receipts and responsible for budget reconciliations.
  • Maintains effective communication through circulating news releases, posters and other exhibition materials. Ensures events are well publicized. Oversees maintenance of several mailing lists.
  • Assists with supervision of gallery interns, students and volunteers. Assigns and schedules tasks suited to training of staff.
  • Coordinates building rental agreements for special events. Prepares information for reports and other documentation as assigned.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • One year's relevant experience.

Physical requirements

Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
