General summary

Creates and maintains a digital humanities project pertaining to 17th and 18th century controversial literature on the subject of special divine action.

Major duties

  • Creates and maintains metadata providing users with access to the Libraries digital resources for inclusion in the special collection in accordance with national standards.
  • Cross-indexes documents for the collection. Creates appropriate sets of indexing terms to facilitate scholarly use of the collection. Reviews sources and maintains relevancy of particular categories and terminology.
  • Manages and coordinates the process of implementing metadata, including project management. Oversees metadata encoding for the documents. Ensures standards for metadata encoding are met.
  • Digitizes documents and determines the digitization standards. Discusses interfaces and collaborates with other outside units associated with the project.
  • Supervise graduate student research assistant.

Minimum qualifications

Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.

Required education

  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • One year's relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with relevant metadata standards for electronic documents.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies for digital humanities management and delivery.
  • Familiarity with primary sources on special divine action in the 17th and 18th centuries.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
