Dr. Eve Salisbury is a professor in the Department of English at Western Michigan University.
Salisbury’s research is in medieval literature and interdisciplinary approaches to its study. She is exploring ways in which medical treatises, plague narratives and prescriptive poetry provide therapeutic reading as well as remedies for bodies in pain. Medical recipes from late-medieval household manuscripts, when read in conjunction with more formalized medical practices such as those taught at medieval schools of medicine, enable students to see how remedies of the past had the potential to heal the most challenging of infectious diseases and integrate oftentimes disparate enterprises of faith and science.
