The Concert Band is dedicated to the
excellent performance of quality literature, including original works for band
as well as outstanding orchestral transcriptions. The aesthetic aspect of the
music is stressed and special emphasis is placed on musical style. The ensemble
maintains an active performance schedule on campus and in the community.
Membership is open to all University students by audition.
He is director of the Bronco Marching Band
and coordinator of sports band operations. He teaches music education methods
courses, and conducts the University Concert Band. Prior to his WMU
appointment, he served as a graduate teaching assistant at Kansas State
University, where he assisted with the KSU athletic bands and concert bands,
conducted the trumpet and brass ensembles, and taught both music education
courses and private conducting lessons. From 1998 to 2002, he was Director of
Bands at East Gaston High School in Mt. Holly, North Carolina, where the
concert band program advanced from Grade IV to Grade VI and received four
consecutive superior ratings at the North Carolina Music Educators Association
Contest Festival. His marching band won first place awards and earned superior
ratings. He has served as principal trumpet in the KSU Symphony Band, Trumpet
and Brass Ensembles, and as a substitute in the KSU Faculty Brass Quintet. He
often serves as an adjudicator and clinician.
