Judy Moonert is the director of percussion studies at Western Michigan University and Principal Percussionist with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra. Moonert is active as a solo and chamber musician with performances throughout the United States. Her recent international activities include concerts in China and Honduras, and travel to Havana, Cuba to research Afro-Cuban percussion music. As a member of Coalescence Percussion Duo, she has performed at the 2006 and 2008 Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC), the Players Theatre in NYC, and the 2011 Festival of Percussion at the National School of Music in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Her performances as percussionist with Opus 21 – Music Without Boundaries chamber ensemble include premieres of works by internationally renowned composers in concerts at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, The Knitting Factory, Symphony Space in NYC, and the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. Moonert presented a clinic at the 1999 PASIC, and adjudicated the 1998 International Percussive Arts Society (PAS) Composition Contest and 2012 PAS High School Percussion Ensemble Competition. Under her direction, the WMU Percussion Ensemble won the Percussive Arts Society 1998 International Percussion Ensemble Contest and presented a showcase concert at the 1998 PASIC.
