Commander Franklin Ryan is a part-time instructor in the Department of Physics at Western Michigan University. Now retired from the U.S. Navy, he received several awards for service in Vietnam.
Ryan has more than 20 years of experience teaching physics at the high school and university levels. He has experience working as an electronics technician and nuclear reactor operator, has conducted and published basic research in plasma physics, was officer in charge of an underwater acoustic research vessel, and was second in command of a government research department of more than 300 scientists and engineers. Ryan supports the careers of his students by sharing his deep knowledge of and appreciation for physics.
