Improving our Campus Climate

Dear Colleagues:

Western Michigan University is committed to creating and fostering a working and learning environment in which all members of our community can thrive. We strive, always, to be a campus where tolerance and compassion fuel our daily interactions with one another. To that end, we want to ensure you have the information and resources you need to help us build and maintain a community free from incivility, discrimination and violence.

We are offering interactive online training programs to remind all employees about Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 and our obligation to prevent sexual harassment and bullying in the educational environment and workplace. These are critically important issues, and I want to take this opportunity to reiterate that Western Michigan University does not tolerate any misconduct or behavior that violates the law or University policy.

Our goal is to build and preserve an academic community in which everyone can work together free from fear of exploitation, intimidation or harassment of any kind.

I believe that education and awareness are effective ways to ensure a respectful environment free from harassment and discrimination. All University faculty and staff are invited and encouraged to complete the interactive training programs being offered. You will soon receive access instructions for these programs from Human Resources.

Thank you, in advance, for investing the time to become better informed about these issues.
