Catherine Shepherd is an educator, advocate and counselor who is passionate about making educational opportunities more accessible. Ms. Shepherd worked as a high school social studies teacher in Piñon, Arizona, on the Navajo Reservation for two years. During this time, she recognized that she wanted to work at a school-wide level to facilitate a more equitable experience for all students as a school counselor. Following her teaching experience, she worked as a student life counselor at the Indiana Academy for two years while earning her M.A. in Counseling at Ball State University. After finishing her degree, she worked as a school counselor in Indiana for two years. During this time, she partnered with the Northeast Indiana Area Health Education Center and the National Alliance for Mental Illness to offer valuable services to the school community. She also implemented new events such as Coffee with the Counselors and a College and Career Family Night. She is excited to make literacy enrichment activities more accessible for all students in our community as the coordinator for the McGinnis Reading Center and Clinic.
