SRC COVID-19 Modifications

The Student Recreation Center at Western Michigan University has made extensive modifications to spaces throughout the facility due to COVID-19. Some of these changes include decreased capacities, closed areas of the facilities, relocated equipment, and limitations on activities.

Current status of activities (updated 6/2)

All SRC policies and practices are based on guidance from the WMU's COVID Response Team, Kalamazoo County, and state orders. SRC users must continue to follow WMU's facial covering policy which requires mask to worn at all times covering your nose and mouth. Drop-in sports such as basketball, soccer and volleyball are now available to SRC users. Failure to abide by SRC COVID policies and mask wearing could result in activities being suspended or temporary loss of SRC access.
 
  • Guest pass sales have resumed. SRC members can sponsor up to two individuals 16 or over to come into the building with them. All guests must have a photo id, pay the $8 guest pass fee and complete a COVID screening at the service desk.
  • Family hours and activities have resumed during all building hours. Members can bring their children or dependents to the SRC for activities. Children or dependents 15 or young have no charge. Anyone 16 or older must pay the $8 guest pass fee. Anyone 13 or older must complete a COVID screening at the service desk.
  • Overall building and space capacities are at 50%.

The following areas are closed until further notice:

  • SRC pool and sauna
  • Intramural sports office
  • Student Recreation Center
    • Overall building capacity limited to 750.
    • Shortened hours of operation.
    • Everyone entering the control space must swipe their Bronco ID, show their green Sindecuse badge, and wear a face covering (mask).
    • Masks must be worn at all times inside the facility and cover your mouth and nose. If you are not wearing your mask properly (over your nose and mouth), you will be asked to leave the facility.
    • All patrons must swipe their id when exiting the building for contact tracing purposes.
    • Patrons must bring their own equipment for open recreation, except for those items noted in the "Equipment Rental" section.
    • Guest pass sales resume on Monday, April 26.
    • Students that were not charged an enrollment fee can purchase an $8 single access pass or purchase a semester membership.
    • Family hours and activities resume on Monday, April 26.
    • SRC staff reserves the right to alter available activities due to patrons failing to comply with policies and procedures.
  • Weight Room
    • Room capacity is 60. Capacity may be reduced at times to ensure there is space for academic classes held in the weight room.
    • Machines have been spaced out to encourage and accommodate social distancing.
    • Patrons should clean machines before and after use.
    • One door is established as enter only (closest to the Towel Tracker machine and turnstiles) and the other is designated as exit only (closest to the locker rooms).
    • If the weight room is at capacity, spots have been placed on the floor indicating where to wait in line to access the weight room.
    • 30 minute limit on all cardio equipment.
    • Blue boxes have been placed on the floor to encourage social distancing.
  • 1st Floor Gym
    • Gym capacity is 200.
    • Basketball games of up to 5v5 can be played. Masks must be worn at all times and cover your mouth and nose.
    • SRC staff reserves the right to discontinue activities if patrons are not complying with policies.
  • Locker Rooms
    • Room capacity varies and is posted outside each locker room.
    • Private showers available for use.
    • Locker rooms may be closed temporarily between 2 and 3 p.m. for cleaning.
    • Patrons must wear a mask at all times, except when showering.
  • 3rd Floor Gym
    • Gym capacity is 200.
    • Gym will be set up for volleyball and badminton.
    • Volleyball can be played up to 6v6. Masks must be worn at all times and cover your mouth and nose.
  • South Multipurpose Gym (Cardio Area)
    • Room capacity is 40.
    • Cardio machines have been spaced out to accommodate social distancing.
    • Please clean equipment before and after use.
    • 30-minute time limit on all equipment.
  • North Multipurpose Gym
    • Room capacity is 40.
    • Drop-in soccer can be played up to a maximum of 5v5. Masks must be worn at all times and cover your mouth and nose.
    • Badminton will be played on the 3rd floor. If nets are not set-up, please ask at the 2nd floor service desk to have them set-up.
  • Indoor Tennis Courts
    • Room capacity is 100.
    • Activity in this area limited to individual activities or tennis.
    • Tennis nets can be set up by request if they are not already set up.
    • Reservations for tennis in one hour time blocks can be made by calling the service desk at (269) 387-4732 up to one day in advance.
    • No open rec competitive activities, such as soccer, flag football, etc., allowed due to social distancing and testing requirements.
  • Racquetball & Squash Courts
    • Each court has a maximum capacity of 3.
    • Courts can be reserved for racquetball or squash one hour at a time by calling our service desk at (269) 387-4732 up to one day in advance.
  • F45 Studio
    • Studio capacity is limited to 17 (15 participants and 2 instructors).
    • Studio may only be used for F45 classes.

  • Aerobics Studio
    • Studio capacity is limited to 30.
    • Studio may only be used for academic classes, SRC group fitness classes, or private rentals.
    • Group fitness classes have a capacity of 20.
    • In-person class spaces are available on a first come, first serve basis.

  • CycleFit Studio
    • Studio capacity is limited to 11 (10 participants and 1 instructor).
    • Studio may only be used for cyclefit classes.
