Lawrence J. Morrone -Savannah- Lawrence James "Larry" Morrone, 77, of Savannah, Georgia, and formerly of Boston, Massachusetts, died Wednesday afternoon, August 30, 2006, at Savannah Specialty Care Center. Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, he was a son of the late Frank Morrone and Mary Pranica Morrone.

 

Mr. Morrone was a United States Army veteran having served as a Second Lieutenant during the Korean Conflict. Larry started his news career as a reporter in 1955 at the City News Bureau in Chicago. He then worked as a reporter for the Chicago Tribune and then to NEA News Pictures.

 

Larry owned and operated CBS station WBBM in Chicago in the 1960's, where he produced the evening news. Subsequently he joined CBS Network Television News in Washington as a producer. From there his career carried him to PBS in New York as a documentary producer and then to NBC local news, which was also in New York. Larry was then promoted to NBC Network News as a field producer and afterwards became network's Bureau Chief in Boston.

 

In later years Larry worked as a freelance field producer for the networks. His almost 50 year career carried him to stories in the United States, Canada, South America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

 

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and David Minadeo of Savannah, Georgia; two granddaughters, Alix Minadeo and Cassandra Minadeo, and his nephew, Robert George Stroud of Chicago, Illinois. Funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend Dale R. Dyar. Interment will be private.
