A Chicagoland native, Ryan earned her master's degree in International Higher Education from Loyola University Chicago. As part of this online blended program, she also got to participate in two faculty-led study abroad courses: one in Beijing, China and the other in Rome, Italy. Prior to joining WMU, she spent several years as a Learning Technology Coordinator at Rotary International, producing webinars and online courses. She also volunteered at the international education organizations Diversity Abroad and Melibee Global.
As a Fighting Illini (University of Illinois - Urbana-Champaign), Ryan studied psychology and minored in Spanish after spending a semester studying in Bilbao, Spain. After graduating she went back to Spain to teach English in Seville. A self-proclaimed “Españafile”, Ryan just can’t resist the sound of the Spanish guitar, the sabor of paella, and the beauty of the landscape in the cities and countryside. Ryan loves to read and travel and having worked at an international organization that operates in 8 languages, she developed a fascination with them. While she's only formally familiar with 2 of the Romance languages (Spanish and Italian), she's amazed by how much of the others she can now understand, at least in their written form.
