Over 350 student groups, clubs and organizations means WMU offers opportunities for everyone to get involved. When you want to dive in to your passions, check out organizations like Campus Activities Board, fraternities, sororities, Campus Poetry Society, Western Student Association or West Michigan Gamers Guild. There are student groups for almost every discipline. Other on campus events and activities include NCAA D-1 Bronco athletics, intramural sports, Broadway performances, Bronco Bash, career fairs, homecoming, Miller movies and the student recreation center.
LEE HONORS COLLEGE AND TAU SIGMA
Transfer students are invited to join the Lee Honors College at WMU when they meet the admission criteria. Our honors college is one of the nation's first honors colleges and serves as the scholarly home to over 1,700 academically talented students. In 2014, the Lee Honors College formed a new chapter of Tau Sigma, a national honor society exclusively for transfer students. This organization is dedicated to "recognizing and promoting the academic excellence and involvement of transfer students" and is another way to get involved as a new student on campus.
PHI THETA KAPPA ALUMNI CHAPTER
Western Michigan University has been selected as a member of Phi Theta Kappa’s 2016 Transfer Honor Roll, recognizing excellence in the creation of community college transfer pathways. WMU is one of only 40 institutions selected nationwide to receive this honor and is the only Michigan school being honored.
As a member in good standing of Phi Theta Kappa at your community college, you are eligible for membership in WMU's Phi Theta Kappa alumni chapter, Alpha of Michigan. Alpha of Michigan was the first Phi Theta Kappa alumni chapter at a four-year institution in Michigan. Alumni members have a built-in connection with new and returning Phi Theta Kappans at WMU. Alpha of Michigan invites you to join us for fun activities and volunteer opportunities that will positively shape your experience at WMU! One of the best features of WMU is Kalamazoo. Kalamazoo is the fifth largest city in Michigan and provides a vibrant backdrop for student life. Kalamazoo boasts an active downtown with shops, restaurants and plenty of festivals year-round. Students enjoy local recreation such as Climb Kalamazoo, skiing and biking trails. The staff and faculty have the best interest of students in mind. Many students choose WMU because of the faculty. WMU faculty members are passionate about the subjects they teach. Endless research opportunities lead by WMU faculty are available for undergraduate students to be involved in, making discoveries that will change the world. Need some help with a class? All faculty members hold office hours each week to meet with students one-on-one about their coursework while tutoring and supplemental instruction are available at no charge to all students.
In today’s global society, it is important that students have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the world’s cultures. At WMU, students have access to over 90 study abroad programs in more than 40 countries around the world. In addition to the unique experience of studying abroad, a diverse campus community and a commitment to continue fostering diversity make WMU a great place to study. Offices such as the Division of Multicultural Affairs, the office of Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay and Transgender (LBGT) Student Services, and Disability Services for Students serve as information resources, provide support services, and promote a campus climate that affirms the academic and personal development of all students. The International Programs Council (IPC) is a student organization dedicated to promoting cross-cultural understanding at Western Michigan University. Kanley Chapel is a public inter-faith facility located at the heart of the WMU campus and represents the University's dedication and encouragement of personal and spiritual development.
