Student Leadership Opportunities

The Office of Student Transitions will be conducting group interviews, which are scheduled for Saturday, March 21 as individual phone interviews.  During the scheduled periods of 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., a member(s) of the OST team will contact candidates to conduct the phone interview.  If you have any additional questions, please call our office at 269-387-2167.

Fall Welcome Ambassador

First-Year Experience Co-Facilitator/Fall Welcome Ambassador

*Applicants who are hired for the First-Year Experience Co-Facilitator position will automatically serve as a Fall Welcome Ambassador and are expected to attend and participate in all Fall Welcome training and scheduled activities. Please be sure to read the position description for the requirements and commitments pertaining to the Fall Welcome Ambassador position.

Application Process:

All NEW Applicants applying for the First-Year Experience Co-Facilitator position must complete the Office of Student Transitions Student Leader Application, submit a resume along with two names and email addresses of references, participate in a group interview (dates listed below) and attend an individual interview.  Applications are due by March 20 at 8 a.m.  GROUP and INDIVIDUAL INTERVIEWS required for First-Year Experience Co-Facilitator.

NEW Applicants applying for only the Fall Welcome Ambassador position must complete the Office of Student Transitions Student Leader Application, submit a resume along with two names and email addresses of references, and participate in a group interview (dates listed below).  Applications are due by Friday, March 20 at 8 a.m.  NO INDIVIDUAL INTERVIEW required.

Returning Fall Welcome Ambassador and First-Year Seminar Co-Facilitators must complete the Office of Student Transitions Student Leader Application and submit a resume along with two names and email addresses of references. Returning applicants may be asked to participate in an individual interview.  GROUP INTERVIEW not required.

Students that have held a position with the Office of Student Transitions before and are applying for a different position must complete the Office of Student Transitions Student Leader Application and submit a resume along with two names and email addresses of references. Returning applicants applying for any position may be asked to participate in an individual interview and will be contacted by the respective program.  GROUP INTERVIEW not required.

Group Interview Dates:

NEW Applicants applying for the First-Year Experience Co-Facilitator/Fall Welcome Ambassador or Fall Welcome Ambassador position will be required to sign up for one of the following group interview dates at the time of application. 

GROUP INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD IN 1920 SANGREN HALL (NEW APPLICANTS ONLY)

Saturday, March 21 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Saturday, March 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Application:

ANYONE (NEW or RETURNING) interested in applying for one of the Office of Student Transitions Student Leader Positions must complete the online application. As part of the online application process, applicants will be asked to submit a resume. The resume must contain the following information, at a minimum, name, phone number, local address, previous schools (if you transferred to WMU), academic status (FR, SOPH, etc.), major(s) and minor(s), cumulative WMU GPA, honors and awards, and any leadership organizations, positions, and job experience (volunteer and paid) that will benefit you in one of the Student Transitions Leadership Positions.

For assistance with completing a resume, Career and Student Employment Services has a number of resources available including the Career Resource Guide and the Career Zone. In addition, the Haworth College of Business can offer assistance through the Zhang Career Center.

Applicants applying for multiple positions will have until Monday, February 10 at 8 a.m. to complete the online application.

Applicants applying for only the Fall Welcome Ambassador position will have until Friday, March 20 at 8 a.m. to complete the application process.

Applicants will need the name and email addresses of two references who can speak to the applicants’ leadership skills. Applicants applying for the First-Year Experience Co-Facilitator position for the first time and took FYE 2100, must use their primary instructor as one of their two references.  Returning co-facilitators must have their primary instructor as one of the references.

THE APPLICATION CAN ONLY BE ACCESSED ONE TIME THROUGH YOUR WMU LOGIN IN GOOGLE DRIVE AND MUST BE COMPLETED IN ONE SITTING. BE SURE TO HAVE THE RESUME AND NAMES AND EMAIL ADDRESSES OF TWO REFERENCES AVAILABLE AT THAT TIME.
