Police await test results in death of student

KALAMAZOO -- Police are awaiting the results of toxicological tests in the death of Gregory A. Stewart, 37. Stewart was found dead in his apartment at Western Michigan University late Sunday afternoon, Jan. 31. He was discovered by a friend who had come to check on him. The cause of death is not known.

An autopsy, performed Feb. 1, was inconclusive, said Robert J. Brown, director of the WMU Department of Public Safety.

Stewart resided in the Elmwood Apartments at WMU. Officers responded to a call from Stewart's friend at about 5 p.m. WMU police officers administered CPR at the scene. An ambulance was called and Stewart, a senior majoring in art at WMU, was pronounced dead at 5:52 p.m. WMU police are continuing their investigation.
