Marketing department announces scholarship recipients

KALAMAZOO -- Five students were recently awarded a scholarships by the Department of Marketing at Western Michigan University.

The Department of Marketing, which offers majors in marketing, advertising and promotion, food marketing, and sales and business marketing, is part of WMU's Haworth College of Business, whose graduate and undergraduate programs are fully accredited by AACSB, the International Association for Management Education.

BLISSFIELD -- Emilie M. Harmes, 311 Pearl St., received a $500 scholarship and a two-semester paid internship from Biggs-Gilmore Communications in Kalamazoo. The daughter of John and Susan Harmes, she is a 1996 graduate of Blissfield High School. Harmes is pursuing a bachelor's degree in advertising and promotion.

FRANKENMUTH -- Jennifer Dale, 380 Harvest Lane, received a $750 Robert A. Trader
Marketing Scholarship, which is named for Dr. Robert Trader, professor emeritus and founder of the WMU Marketing Department. Dale is a 1995 graduate of Frankenmuth High School and the daughter of Les and Judy Dale. She is pursuing bachelor's degrees in marketing and music.

JENISON -- Jonathan Lepisto, 7681 Walnut Ave., received a $750 Robert A.
Trader Marketing Scholarship, which is named for Dr. Robert Trader, professor emeritus and founder of the WMU Marketing Department. A 1996 graduate of Jenison High School, he is the son of John and Brenda Lepisto and is pursuing a bachelor's degree in marketing.

NILES -- Christopher Beikmann, 2900 W. Winn Rd., received the $500 Louis P.
Johnston Scholarship, which is named for the late founder of Johnston & Associates in Kalamazoo. A 1996 graduate of Buchanan High School, he is the son of Stan and Sheri Beikmann and is pursuing a bachelor's degree in advertising and promotion.

SOUTH LYON -- Carolyn Kovala, 61823 Rambling Way, received a $500 scholarship
and a two-semester paid internship from Stap & Company in Kalamazoo. A 1996 graduate of South Lyon High School, she is the daughter of Randy and Sandy Kovala and is pursuing a bachelor's degree in advertising and promotion.
