Volleyball Broncos defeat CMU, now 7-0 in MAC

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- The Western Michigan University volleyball team won, 3-0, at Central Michigan, 15-3, 15-7, 15-11, on Wednesday night (Oct. 13).

The Broncos (15-3 overall, 7-0 MAC) remain one of two undefeated teams in the Mid-American Conference, and have won 14 of their past 15 matches. The victory over CMU was the sixth sweep (3-0) of a MAC opponent in seven attempts. The Broncos' other MAC win was a 3-1 victory over Bowling Green.

With the victory at Central Michigan, the volleyball Broncos have already clinched a winning record for the season with 11 matches still remaining in their 1999 schedule.

At CMU, senior Mandy Whitfield led all players with 13 kills. Classmate Traci Morin had 12 kills and a .391 hitting percentage. Morin is among the top players in the nation in hitting percentage for the season.

The Broncos host Buffalo on Friday, Oct. 15. WMU won, 3-0, in their previous meeting with Buffalo this season, Oct. 2 at Buffalo. Friday's match begins at 7 p.m. in University Arena. On Wednesday, Oct. 20, the Broncos travel to Oxford, Ohio, for their first of two matches this season against Miami University, the only other team with an unblemished record in the conference.
