Holiday Y2K safety precautions for home and work

KALAMAZOO -- With the Year 2000 rollover looming, take extra precautions before leaving home or work for the holidays. Remember to:

• Back up all important computer files, twice. Preferably keep one backup in a second location.
• Unplug all electronic items in your office (and in your home, if you will be away). This means everything electronic: computers, fax machines, scanners, copiers, coffee-makers, microwaves, clocks, radios, telephones, televisions, garage door openers, answering machines.
• Be sure to retain paper copies of all your personal financial accounts and transactions: investments, checking accounts, charitable contributions, credit card statements, utility bills, mortgage statements.
• And THIS holiday season, be sure you keep itemized receipts for EVERYTHING you purchase. Just in case.
