Women's basketball team gets road win at Akron

AKRON, Ohio -- Senior Shelsea Erving led all players with 25 points as the WMU women's basketball team defeated Akron, 67-55, on Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Akron.

Rookie Kristin Koetsier had 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Broncos. Senior Danielle Mueller came up just sky of her third double-double of the season with 10 points and nine rebounds. In 16 minutes of action off the bench, sophomore Casey Stevenson had eight points and three rebounds.

WMU has won four straight contests, improved to 6-7 overall, and is off to its best start, 3-0, in the Mid-American Conference since 1994-95. The win at Akron was also the second consecutive road victory for Western, following a five-game road losing streak in December. The Broncos are undefeated, 3-0, on their home court.

With the loss, Akron falls to 0-3 in the MAC. The victory was the first (1-2) at Akron for third-year Bronco head coach Ron Stewart.

The Broncos return home on Monday, Jan. 17, for a 7 p.m. contest versus Buffalo at University Arena.
