Jan. 15, 2000

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. -- WMU men's basketball team lost to traditional rival Central Michigan, 88-72, on Saturday (Jan. 15) in Mt. Pleasant, Mich. The Broncos failed to build on a huge come-from-behind win four days earlier versus previously MAC-unbeaten Bowling Green.

With the loss, Western Michigan falls to 5-9 overall and 1-4 in the Mid-American Conference. CMU improved to 4-10 and got its first MAC win (also 1-4) of the season.

The Broncos hit on only 38 percent of their shots from the field and 68 percent from the free throw line, while Central Michigan connected on 50 percent from the field and was 26 of 27 in free-throw shooting.

Junior transfer Jon Powell (Dayton, Ohio) led WMU with a career-high 26 points. Brad Van Timmeren led the Broncos in rebounds with 13. Tony Barksdale returned to action following a team-imposed suspension and carded 11 points. Rod Brown also contributed 11 points for WMU and added eight assists.

The Broncos are next in action on Wednesday, Jan. 19, when they host Toledo at University Arena beginning at 7 p.m.
