Broncos improve to 7-1 MAC

Jan. 29, 2000

KALAMAZOO -- WMU's women's basketball team retained sole possession of first place in the MAC West Division with a 74-64 victory over Northern Illinois on Saturday (Jan. 29). The Broncos improved to 10-8 overall and 7-1 in the Mid-American Conference, the best conference start ever for WMU women's basketball.

The Broncos are 8-1 in their past nine games, and have won two in a row. They travel to Florida on Tuesday, Feb. 1, for an important non-conference match. A victory at Florida would aid the Broncos' chances for an NCAA Tournament bid. They return to University Arena on Thursday, Feb. 3, when they host Eastern Michigan beginning at 7 p.m.

In the game versus Northern Illinois, rookie Kristin Koetsier led the Broncos with 23 points. Senior Shelsea Erving had 19 points and eight rebounds. Erving is now tied with Pat Charity (1977-78, 1980-81) for second place on the Bronco career scoring list with 1,542 points. Sophomore twin guards Brooke and Brianne Gallert each had six assists in the WMU win.
