Presentation offers 'how to' tips on business plans

Feb. 1, 2000

KALAMAZOO -- A new area business leader will instruct Southwest Michigan women on the finer points of writing a business plan Thursday, Feb. 3, at the Kalamazoo County Chamber of Commerce.

Melissa Angel, director of the Small Business Development Center at Kalamazoo College, will present "How to Create a Winning Business Plan" from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Chamber offices, 346 W. Michigan Ave. The program, part of a monthly series of workshops offered by Western Michigan University's Women's Business Development Center, is free and open to the public.

The presentation will include an explanation of why business plans are needed, the basic elements of a plan, how to get started, and both online and traditional research sources.

Angel joined the SBDC in December 1999, after more than four years with the Michigan Small Business Development Center and a stint as a business owner herself. She earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from WMU and an MBA from Wayne State University. Last year, Angel provided more than 1,000 hours of counseling to business owners.

WMU's Haworth College of Business established the Women's Business Development Center in 1999 to offer support to female professionals and entrepreneurs through training, group and individual problem-solving consultation, current business information and networking opportunities.
