Men's basketball season ends with loss at Ohio

ATHENS, Ohio -- WMU's men's basketball team lost, 77-52, at Ohio University on Wednesday (March 1). The Mid-American Conference tournament first-round contest was played in front of 5,614 fans at the Convocation Center.

Ohio opened a 27-4 lead midway through the first half. Although the Broncos were able to cut the Bobcat lead to 16 points at the intermission, they were never able to trim the Ohio lead to single digits.

Ohio hit 57 percent of its shots for the game. WMU hit 35 percent. During the decisive 27-4 Ohio run that opened the contest, the Bobcats hit 75 percent, and the Broncos just 15 percent from the field.

John Powell and Thadus Williams each scored 10 points for WMU. Brad Van Timmeren had nine points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Rod Brown finished with eight points, and Tony Barksdale had six.

In other MAC Tournament first-round action Wednesday night, Miami defeated Eastern Michigan, 64-51; Toledo def. Northern Illinois, 68-64; Marshall def. Buffalo, 83-66; and Central Michigan def. Akron, 75-73.
