March 28, 2000

KALAMAZOO -- Transfer to Western Michigan University of patented technology that could revolutionize a major national industry will be announced during a news conference Thursday, March 30. The news conference will be held at the Fetzer Center on the WMU Kalamazoo campus beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Complete details of the announcement will be available in WMU News Thursday afternoon.

Michigan Gov. John Engler and area business and political leaders will gather for the announcement, which will detail a donation from a Fortune 50 company of technology that will be commercially developed by WMU researchers.

Gov. Engler is expected to address the gather during the conference, as are representatives of the donating corporation and WMU officials. The donation will lead to a major research initiative at WMU, and development of the technology may ultimately have significant impact on a number of key state and national industries.
