Sept. 27, 2000

KALAMAZOO -- The Western Michigan University men's and women's tennis teams have announced an addition to their staffs for the 2000-01 season.

Scott Petersen (Idaho '97) is the newest member of the Bronco coaching staffs. He will work with both Bronco teams during the 2000-01 season. In addition to his coaching duties during matches, Petersen will also assist with practice, recruiting, and travel plans.

A native of Portland, Ore., Petersen graduated from Idaho with a degree in recreation and tourism and earned a master's degree in sports recreation management from Idaho in 2000. He played No. 2 and 3 doubles for two seasons for the Vandals.

Following graduation, Petersen remained at Idaho as a graduate assistant coach with the men's tennis program. He helped Idaho's No. 1 doubles team achieve a ranking of as high as No. 10 in the nation during his coaching tenure.

Petersen also served as a teaching pro at Mint Valley Country Club in Longview, Wash., prior to joining the Bronco tennis staffs.

Both men's and women's tennis teams are in action this weekend. The men's squad competes in the University of Illinois/Nike Invitational while the women's team takes part in the Notre Dame Invitational Friday through Saturday (Sept. 29-Oct. 1).
