Gold Company headlines New York jazz festival

April 6, 2001

KALAMAZOO -- Members of Gold Company, Western Michigan University's globetrotting vocal jazz ensemble, are packing their bags for the Big Apple, where they will headline a major festival in late April.

Tickets are now on sale for the 8 p.m. concert on April 30 in historic Town Hall. In addition to Gold Company's featured performance, Dr. Stephen Zegree, WMU professor of music, will be a featured clinician and guest conductor at the New York City Vocal Jazz Festival. Zegree, who is currently on sabbatical, directs Gold Company. Duane Davis, who is directing the ensemble during Zegree's sabbatical, also will direct Gold Company at the festival and will serve as a clinician as well.

"It is a tremendous honor for Gold Company to receive an invitation to be the headlining group for this festival," Zegree says.

Also included in the concert will be individual performances by vocalists from Abraham Lincoln High School, San Jose, Calif.; Oneida High School, Oneida, N.Y.; and Montclair State University, Upper Montclair, N.J.; along with three selections by combined choirs.

Town Hall is at 123 W. 43rd St. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster. To order by phone, call (212) 307-4100.
