Trustees OK changes to vehicle registration ratesJuly 6, 2001 KALAMAZOO -- After holding steady for two years, vehicle registration rates at Western Michigan University will rise next fall to help fund substantial improvements to the University's roadways and parking facilities, including the construction of two new parking structures. The increase, approved July 6 by the WMU Board of Trustees, raises vehicle registration rates for full-time students from $175 to $225 for the 2001-02 year. The approved rate hike is the University's first since 1999. According to Robert M. Beam, vice president for business and finance, the increase will help to cover the cost of significant roadway and parking facility improvements, the operation of the parking system, and the construction of two new parking structures at the University's Parkview Campus. Vehicle registration rates will rise for all two- and four-wheel motor vehicles during all semesters and for vehicles registered to park in the Lawson Ice Arena lot.
