Accomplished ballet director works with studentsMarch 25, 2002 KALAMAZOO -- An accomplished ballet director is returning to the Western Michigan University campus as an artist in residence. Fiona Fuerstner, ballet mistress and assistant to the artistic director of the Milwaukee Ballet, will be in residence March 27-29 in the Department of Dance. Fuerstner first visited WMU in fall 1999 when she restaged George Balanchine's work "Serenade" for the winter 2000 dance concert. During that visit, she taught daily master classes in ballet technique. She returned to WMU the following January to further prepare the dancers for their performance in Chenery Auditorium. Furestner's upcoming residency will include master classes in ballet and pointe for intermediate and advanced dance students. Others are welcome to observe the classes and should call the Department of Dance at (269) 387-5830 for more information. Media contact: Mark Schwerin, 269 387-8400, mark.schwerin@wmich.edu |
