University Chorale gives free concert in Southeast Michigan

Nov. 6, 2002

KALAMAZOO -- Western Michigan University's internationally acclaimed University Chorale will present a free concert for WMU alumni and friends in Southeast Michigan from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, in the auditorium of Berkley High School, 2325 Catalpa, Berkley.

The choir won the grand prize at Europe's 2002 International Robert Schumann Choral Competition, becoming the first U.S. ensemble to receive top honors in the event.

WMU competed at the highest level of difficulty for mixed (male and female) choirs and was among 39 ensembles from 16 countries that were selected to participate in this year's competition.

The University Choral is conducted by Dr. Joe Miller, director of choral studies and associate professor of music. Its Berkley concert is being sponsored by the WMU Alumni Association's Southeast Michigan Chapter.
