Music students clean up at regional competitionNov. 21, 2002 KALAMAZOO -- Eight music students from Western Michigan University hit high notes, including three first-place finishes, at a recent vocal music competition. The students competed in the regional competition of the National Association of Teachers of Singing Nov. 2-3 at Bowling Green State University. The region includes Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Ontario, Canada. Finishing first in their respective categories were Eric Cadena, of Haslett, Mich., freshmen men (tie); Molly Crookedacre, of East Lansing, Mich., sophomore women; and Aaron Wardell, of Williamston, Mich., senior men. Other WMU students placing in the regionals were Julie Kersaan, of Jenison, Mich., second place, freshmen women; David Buren, of Lansing, Mich., second place, freshmen men; Erin Smith, of Lansing, Mich., third place, freshmen women; Robin Agne, of Otsego, Mich., honorable mention, junior women; and Kristin Dethlefsen, of Okemos, Mich., honorable mention, senior women.
