Faculty Artist Series features jazz trio

Nov. 11, 2002

KALAMAZOO -- The jazz trio of bassist Tom Knific, singer Sunny Wilkinson and guitarist Gene Bertoncini perform in their Western Michigan University debut Tuesday, Nov. 19, beginning at 8:15 p.m. in the Dalton Center Recital Hall.

Sponsored by the WMU School of Music as part of the Faculty Artist Series, the concert is $10 for general admission and $5 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are available through the Miller Auditorium Ticket Office at 269 387-2300 or 800 228-9858.

This guitar, bass and vocal trio unites three special artists with a decade of collaborative experience. Their treatment of Brazilian gems, classic standards, and unique originals is poetic and stirring. Wilkinson performs powerful ballads and agile bebop lines; Bertoncini is known worldwide as a master of the acoustic jazz guitar; Knific is both rhythmic foundation, and soloist performing glorious bowed melodies and grooving bass lines.

The trio can be heard on Knific's soon to be released album "Siena."
