Still time to register for TRIO Day luncheonMarch 17, 2003 KALAMAZOO -- TRIO Day 2003 at Western Michigan University will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 18 in Room 2020 Fetzer Center. The annual event recognizes the achievements of students who participate in WMU's four TRIO programs: Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math/Science, Student Support Programs and the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Scholars Program. TRIO programs are sponsored by the federal government as a way of expanding educational opportunities for students from low-income families, where neither parent graduated from college. This year, TRIO Day will be held in conjunction with a new research symposium showcasing WMU's McNair Scholars. The day will feature an awards and recognition luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. that will honor this year's TRIO students and include a keynote address by Dr. Arnold L. Mitchem, president of the Council for Opportunity in Education. The McNair research symposium will feature oral presentations by eight McNair Scholars from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and poster presentations by seven additional scholars from 2 to 3:30 p.m. To reserve space to attend the TRIO Day luncheon, call Lisamarie Reese in the WMU Division of Multicultural Affairs at (269) 387-3324.
