Geography professor awarded fellowship for Japanese studiesMay 9, 2003 KALAMAZOO -- Dr. Gregory Veeck, associate professor of geography at Western Michigan University, has been awarded the Sasakawa Fellowship by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. The fellowship will support his participation in the National Faculty Development Institute on Incorporating Japanese Studies into the Undergraduate Curriculum, which will be held June 2-27 at San Diego State University. Veeck is currently conducting research with apple farmers in Michigan, China and Japan, which is examining conditions for small farmers in the three countries since the formation of the World Trade Organization. The fellowship will help him with this research in understanding Japan and will support his work in the classroom, where he teaches an undergraduate class on China, Japan and Korea.
