Professors to review and preview Supreme Court decisionsOct. 17, 2003 KALAMAZOO -- Two Western Michigan University professors will give their annual "Supreme Court Review and Preview" for the Court's 2003-04 judicial year during a Brown Bag Lunch sponsored by the Institute of Government and Politics and the Department of Political Science. Dr. Peter Renstrom, professor of political science, and Dr. Ashlyn Kuersten, associate professor of political science, will speak at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, in Room 3301 of Friedmann Hall. "Since the Supreme Court is probably the least understood of the three branches of government, there seems to be a high interest among students and faculty in discussing its business," says Renstrom. Their talk will cover case highlights from the 2002-03 term, including the University of Michigan's affirmative action case and the Texas homosexual sodomy case. They will also discuss cases the Supreme Court will decide during the 2003-04 term. Media contact: Matt Gerard, 269 387-8400, matthew.gerard@wmich.edu |
