Bay Buchanan speaks at WMU WednesdayNov. 7, 2003 KALAMAZOO -- Angela "Bay" Buchanan, a political analyst for CNN and president of The American Cause, will speak at Western Michigan University beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, in room 2302 of Sangren Hall. Buchanan's lecture, "Abortion: It's Hazardous to Your Health," is free and open to the public and is sponsored by Students for Life at WMU, a registered student organization. Buchanan is expected to draw a link between abortion and an increased risk of developing breast cancer, and to describe the psychological effects of having an abortion. The American Cause is a conservative organization, established "to advance and promote traditional American values that are rooted in conservative principles." It was founded by her older brother, three-time presidential candidate Pat Buchanan. Bay Buchanan began her political career as the national treasurer of Ronald Reagan's presidential campaigns in 1980 and 1984. President Reagan appointed her in 1981 to be Treasurer of the United States. Then age 32, she was the youngest person ever to hold that position. Since leaving public office, she has been featured as a regular or occasional political analyst on several television shows, most recently CNN's "Inside Politics."
