WMU offices closed for holidays

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University offices closed at noon Dec. 24 and will reopen Monday, Jan. 5, 2004. Classes for spring semester also begin Jan. 5.

The only public event on campus during the holiday closure is Tuesday, Dec. 30, when WMU's women's basketball team plays host to Purdue in University Arena at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door. Visit wmubroncos.com for more information.

Holiday hours for selected WMU offices and services are listed below.

Residence halls will reopen for spring semester at 9 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 4.

Computer labs in the Bernhard Center and the Instructional Technology lab in Sangren Hall closed Dec. 12. All other computer labs closed at noon Dec. 24. The Bernhard Center labs reopen at 8 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, the UCC labs open at noon Jan. 4, and all other labs open on their regular schedules Jan. 5.

Lawson Ice Arena and Gabel Natatorium closed at noon Dec. 24. Open skates will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 3-4. The ice arena and swimming pool will resume regular schedules Jan. 5.

Sindecuse Health Center pharmacy, only, will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 29-30. Except for the pharmacy hours listed, the health center will be closed beginning at noon, Dec. 24, and will resume normal hours Jan. 5. Medical emergencies during the holiday closure should be referred to area hospitals and other immediate care facilities.

Student Recreation Center closed at noon Dec. 24 and will reopen from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5. SRC resumes normal hours on Tuesday, Jan. 6.

All University libraries, including Waldo Library and the University Archives and Regional History Collections, closed at noon Dec. 24 and will reopen Jan. 5 on their regular schedules.

West Hills Athletic Club will be open 5:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Dec. 24; closed Dec. 25; open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 26, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 27-28, 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Dec. 29-30, 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 31; closed Jan. 1; and will resume normal hours beginning Jan. 2.

Some essential-services employees will be required to work during the holiday closure. Pay will be determined according to the holiday policies specific to each employee group.
