Sole Power promotes health and wellness

May 17, 2004

KALAMAZOO--Sole Power is a health and wellness program for Western Michigan University employees that features power walking and six health and wellness topic sessions.

The $15 program fee includes a guide for each power walk, tracking and incentive documents, six health and wellness topic sessions and maps. Health and wellness topic sessions are open to non- members for $5 per session.

This month's topic is "Better Heath with Beans," a cooking demonstration Wednesday, May 19, from 12:05 to 12:50 p.m. in the cooking lab, lower level of Kohrman Hall. Sindecuse Health Center dietitians Lori Yelton and Gretchen Kauth will show how to make beans, peas and legumes a regular part of your diet. The class focuses on how to prepare quick, easy, inexpensive and--most importantly--tasty dishes. Come hungry to learn and sample the recipes demonstrated.

Contact Jen Bailey at Zest for Life, (269) 387-3543, to register for any of the Sole Power sessions.

Future sessions will be held in Room 3016 of the Student Recreation Center from 12:05 to 12:50 p.m. Dates and topics are as follows.

June 9, "Ways to Workout"

June 23, "Taking the Drama Out and Putting the Fun Back Into Your Relationship"
