WMU HOME > ABOUT WMU > WMU NEWS Video presentation of Graves lecture is freeMay 18, 2004 KALAMAZOO--"The Illusion of Race," a video of the "Respecting Differences" presentation by Dr. Joseph Graves will be shown Wednesday, May 26, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Western Michigan University in the Fetzer Center's Kirsch Auditorium. Graves' talk was presented April 6 and 7 for the community-wide Respecting Differences event and focuses on the lack of biological evidence supporting race as a means of categorizing humans. The lecture also touches on the purpose of the social construction of race. The May 26 video presentation is free and open to the public. No reservations are needed. Graves is the author of "The Emperor's New Clothes: Biological Theories of Race at the Millennium" and the forthcoming "The Race Myth: Why We Pretend Race Exists in America." He holds a Ph.D. in environmental, evolutionary and systematic biology from Wayne State University.
