Nelson receives lecturer award

KALAMAZOO--Nickola W. Nelson, professor of speech pathology and audiology at Western Michigan University, has received the Distinguished Faculty Lecturer Award from the University of Saint Xavier in Chicago. Saint Xavier's Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders gives this award annually to one outstanding recipient.

Nelson was recognized for "the quality of excellence and professional vision demonstrated in her contributions to the field of speech and language pathology during her long years of service." The award ceremony in May included Nelson delivering a lecture titled "Language and Literacy Connections: A Roadmap to Relevant Language Intervention Practices."

Nelson joined the WMU faculty in 1981 and was promoted to professor in 1991. She received her bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from Wichita State University.
