Sept. 3, 2004

KALAMAZOO--Evie Asken, director of campus planning at Western Michigan University, was recently named a fellow of the Association of University Architects and honored with the group's Distinguished Service Award.

A 14-year member and three-time officer of the organization, Asken was honored at the group's annual meeting, which was held over the summer at the University of Rhode Island-Providence. The resolution outlining her award noted Asken's work in guiding "the design and development of Western Michigan University" and her "significant contributions to the architectural profession."

Asken also is a fellow of the American Institute of Architects and an alumni fellow of Kansas State University.

The Association of University Architects is made up of representatives of 130 member universities, with membership limited to the one person from each institution who is a licensed architect on the administrative staff and who has professional responsibility for the physical development of the campus as his or her primary duty.
