Tickets go on sale for comedian Dave Chappelle

Sept. 13, 2004

KALAMAZOO--Popular comedian Dave Chappelle will take the stage at Miller Auditorium for a single performance Monday, Oct. 4, at 9 p.m.

Tickets go on sale to Western Michigan University students--limit two per student--beginning Wednesday, Sept. 15, and will be available to the general public starting Friday, Sept. 17. Tickets will be sold at the Miller Auditorium Ticket Office only, and must be purchased in person. The ticket office is open weekdays 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets for WMU students range from $30 to $40, and range from $40 to $50 for all others.

Dave Chappelle is one of the most popular and highly recognized stand-up comedians among college students today. He is the host and creator of his successful self-titled series "Chappelle"s Show" on Comedy Central. He has also found success in the area of feature film. He has starred in Hollywood hits including "Robin Hood: Men in Tights," "The Nutty Professor," and the popular movie "Half Baked," which he also co-wrote.

"Time-Out New York" stated, "What is really arresting about Chappelle is that he seems to possess that rare balance of depth and delivery, which often makes a Pryor or a Carlin. His jokes, all of them unapologetically about race, are painfully insightful*his natural affability allows him to sneak up from behind with the sharp stuff."

"This is sure to be an amazing performance from a talented and gifted comedian. Students are really looking forward to his performance," says Matt Ephraim, comedy coordinator for WMU's Campus Activities Board, which is sponsoring the event. "CAB has worked hard in bringing well-known comedians to campus, and Dave Chappelle was clearly the top choice among our students."
