WMU HOME > ABOUT WMU > WMU NEWS Trustees okay retirements of 12 faculty and staff membersSept. 18, 2004 KALAMAZOO--The retirements of one faculty member and 11 staff members were approved by the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees at its Sept. 17 meeting. Trustees also accepted the resignations of nine faculty members. The faculty member who is retiring is doing so with emeritus status. Dr. Jay D. Lindquist, professor of marketing, will retire after 31-1/2 years of service, effective April 30, 2005. The staff members retiring, along with their positions, years of continuous service and effective dates of retirement are: Nanci M. Aalsburg, LAN technician in University Libraries, 31 years, effective Sept. 30, 2004; Joan E. Ashley, manager of WMU Campus Apartments, 23-1/2 years, effective Jan. 3, 2005; Lon E. Baird, buyer in the Department of Chemistry, 26 years, effective Aug. 31, 2004; Kenneth D. Bartholomew, director of the WMU Dining Service, 37-1/2 years, effective Jan. 3, 2005; Mark J. Evert, supervisor, stage technician at Miller Auditorium, 35 years, effective Sept. 30, 2004; Joyce A. Fitzstephens, office assistant in the University Counseling and Testing Center, 21-1/2 years, effective Dec. 31, 2004; Christine M. McDowell, assistant manager of Grants and Contracts, 25-1/2 years, effective Jan. 31, 2005; James T. Schaper, director of Auxiliary Enterprises, 34-1/2 years, effective Jan. 3, 2005; Gerald F. Slater, plant operator in the Paper Pilot Plant, 10 years, effective Oct. 31, 2004; S. Yvonne Slater, office assistant in the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Leadership, 15-1/2 years, effective Dec. 31, 2004; and Dr. Trudy G. Verser, associate dean of the Haworth College of Business and associate professor of management, 19-1/2 years, effective Jan. 3, 2005. The faculty members resigning are: Trudy Cobb-Dennard, associate professor of dance, effective Aug. 1, 2004; Dr. Toby A. Daspit, assistant professor of teaching, learning and leadership, effective Aug. 1, 2004; Dr. Jennifer B. Ellis, assistant professor of communication, effective Aug. 1, 2004; Dr. Neil A. Pinney, associate professor of political science, effective Aug. 1, 2004; Dr. Donna M. Ritenour, assistant professor of health, physical education and recreation, effective Aug. 2, 2004; Dr. Brent C. Smith, assistant professor of public affairs and administration, effective Aug. 1, 2004; Barbara A. Starke, faculty specialist II in the Bronson School of Nursing, effective Aug. 26, 2004; Dr. M. Scot Tanner, professor of political science, effective Aug. 1, 2004; and Elizabeth H. Voshel, faculty specialist II in the School of Social Work, effective Aug. 1, 2004.
