Staff award nominations due end of the month

Oct. 21, 2004

KALAMAZOO--Nominations for the fall round of WMU's new semiannual Make a Difference awards are due by Oct. 31.

Make a Difference is a campuswide peer-to-peer program that recognizes WMU staff for their outstanding accomplishments and daily investment of energy and creativity. It features semiannual and annual awards that go to non-faculty employees who provide exceptional service to the University.

Each fall and spring, semiannual awards are presented to a maximum of 15 people. Those selected receive a plaque and a $250 prize and are recognized at a special reception. They may win the award more than once but are limited to one award per academic year.

Each May, the four most outstanding winners of the year's semiannual awards are selected to win annual Make a Difference awards. In addition to receiving a framed certificate and $1,000 prize, annual winners are recognized at a special luncheon and have their photos added to the staff recognition display on the second floor of the Siebert Administration Building.

To be eligible to receive a Make a Difference award, employees must be part of the Staff Compensation System, which includes all staff who qualify for membership in the Administrative Professional Association and Professional Support Staff Organization, or be represented by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Michigan State Employees Association or Police Officers Association.

Any member of the WMU community, including students and faculty, may submit nominations for the awards. Recipients are selected by a committee of their peers through an unbiased process. Committee members do not receive the names of nominees, so nominators' comments should not reference the people being nominated.

More information and nomination forms are available online at <www.wmich.edu/makeadifference>. Nominations may be submitted through campus mail to Mail Stop 5216 or to <Make-A-Difference@wmich.edu>.
