WMU HOME > ABOUT WMU > WMU NEWS Concert features Renaissance and Baroque musicNov. 5, 2004 KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's "early music" ensemble, Collegium Musicum, presents a concert of French music from the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods, Tuesday, Nov. 16, at 8:15 p.m. in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. Admission is free. The concert features a 17-voice chorus and 12 instrumentalists, playing lute, recorders, harpsichord, viola da gamba, violin, viola, cello, and organ. The program includes motets, chansons, dances, noels, and a sinfonie by some of the finest composers of the day, including Charpentier, De Lalande, and Clerambault. Collegium Musicum is directed by Dr. Matthew Steel, associate professor of music, and the Collegium Singers are under the direction of Robert Vance, a graduate assistant majoring in conducting.
