WFS presents area debut of 'Criminal'

Nov. 10, 2004

KALAMAZOO--John C. Reilly, Diego Luna and Maggie Gyllenhaal star in the Kalamazoo-area debut of "Criminal," presented by the Western Film Society Friday through Sunday, Nov. 19-21, at Western Michigan University's Little Theatre.

Show times for "Criminal" are 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2:30 and 5 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for general admission.

"Criminal" is a wry, clever caper film featuring the directorial debut of Gregory Jacobs. It is a faithful adaptation of a film from Argentina, 2002's "Nine Queens," by director Fabian Bielinski. Reilly and Luna play two treacherous partners in crime constantly trying to swindle each other out of the big score, a priceless one-of-a-kind 1878 Monroe Silver Certificate. Gyllenhaal stars as the sister of Reilly's con-man character and the only person who can make their grand scheme a reality. Unfortunately, she also despises them. Reilly's role as Richard is a definite standout, the Boston Globe calls it "his first full-tilt electric performance."

The Little Theatre is located at the corner of Oakland Drive and Oliver Street on Western Michigan
University's East Campus. Free off-street parking is located behind the theatre. For more information, call the movie line at (269) 387-8221 or visit the Western Film Society on the Web
