Dec. 1, 2004

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's School of Music presents its annual "Christmas card to the community" with a free concert of holiday music Sunday, Dec. 12, at 3 p.m. in Miller Auditorium. Popular with audiences of all ages, the School of Music holiday concert has become a regular part of celebrating the season for many area families.

This year's concert, "Brass for the Holidays," features the Western Brass Quintet and an ensemble of outstanding students and faculty from the School of Music, including percussionist Judy Moonert. Members of the brass quintet are Scott Thornburg and Stephen Jones (trumpet), Lin Foulk (horn), Daniel Mattson (trombone) and Robert Whaley (tuba).

The program includes festive music for brass ensembles with selections from the Renaissance, the Baroque and other periods. The afternoon promises a great mixture of traditional holiday music, brass classics and new favorites.
