Trustees receive gift report

Dec. 20, 2004

KALAMAZOO--During the three-month period of Aug. 1 to Oct. 31, Western Michigan University received gifts totaling $3,232,242, bringing the year-to-date total since the July 1 start of the fiscal year to $4,058,064.

A report at the Dec. 10 meeting of the WMU Board of Trustees indicates the current fiscal-year total is approximately 50 percent of the $8.1 million received during the first four months of the previous fiscal year. The year-to-year difference can be credited entirely to a few very large gifts and pledge payments, which were received in July 2003 for the university's now-concluded Centennial Campaign. Omitting July from the comparisons, the amount received August through October 2004 is $653,590 or 20 percent more than for the same three months one year ago, according to Bud Bender, WMU vice president for development and executive director of the WMU Foundation.
