WMU faces Marquette Monday in NIT

KALAMAZOO--The Western Michigan University men's basketball team (19-12) has earned its third-straight postseason bid with its inclusion in the 2005 National Invitation Tournament.

The Broncos travel to Marquette University (19-10), a member of Conference USA, for a 9 p.m. ET matchup Monday, March 14. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN.

"It is a tremendous honor for this program and a real feather in our cap," head coach Steve Hawkins said. "To be invited to the postseason three-straight seasons is a great accomplishment and a real testament to the hard work put in by our players."

WMU last participated in the NIT at the conclusion of the 2002-03 campaign, defeating the University of Illinois-Chicago at WMU's University Arena before falling to Siena in the second round on the road.

The Broncos and Golden Eagles have played 28 times with Marquette holding a 21-7 series advantage. The last meeting between the two occurred Dec. 4, 1999, in the opening round of the Blue & Gold Classic. Marquette won that game 76-69.

WMU's national television appearance will be its sixth in the past two years.

Fan Bus: The WMU Division of Intercollegiate Athletics is providing a free fan bus to the game for the first 35 people to call (269) 387-3673. The bus will depart Lot 10 (Oliver Street, Waldo Stadium press box) at 2 p.m. Reservations must be made by 10 a.m. Monday.

Ticket Information: Tickets for Monday's game can be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets or on-line at www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets are $27, $17, $9 and $5 for students. Bronco fans interested in attending should request section 202 when ordering.
