The program is open to all incoming full- and part-time graduate students, regardless of whether they are enrolled at the main campus in Kalamazoo or one of the University's seven branch campuses. It annually acquaints hundreds of graduate students with WMU services and resources that may help them successfully complete their master's or doctoral degrees. The Graduate Student Orientation Program begins in Room 2304 Sangren Hall with a continental breakfast followed by a welcome from University officials. Informational sessions throughout the day will address such topics as academic and student policies, mentoring and professional development, health services for students, and GoWMU, the University's secure intranet portal. Afternoon activities will include a student services fair from 12:30 to 3 p.m. in the Bernhard Center. Fair attendees will be able to talk with representatives of some two dozen University offices and departments and learn more about everything from the WMU's research policies and information technology resources to its athletic teams and cultural, health and fitness programs. In addition, participants may attend a welcome picnic sponsored by the Graduate Student Advisory Committee from 3 to 7 p.m. near the Goldsworth Valley Pond. The Graduate College also offers a Universitywide Graduate Assistantship/Doctoral Associateship Training Program for graduate students who obtain assistantships or associateships.
