WMU Home > About WMU > WMU News University Theatre presents musical holiday showNov. 19, 2005 KALAMAZOO--Seasonal songs, musical theatre gems and a Broadway star will round out the University Theatre's 2005 schedule with four performances of "The Holiday Cabaret" Thursday through Sunday, Dec. 1-4. "The Holiday Cabaret" features graduating seniors in music theatre performance, along with Broadway's Danny Gurwin, in a lively presentation of tunes from the "Great White Way" and several holiday favorites. Performances in the Multiform Theatre at Western Michigan University begin at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 1-3, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4. Gurwin, a native of Southfield, Mich., moved to New York City 11 years ago. He made his Broadway debut as Hal in "The Scarlett Pimpernel," and rose to fame as Malcolm in "The Full Monty." He also has appeared in the Broadway productions of "Urinetown" and in the recent adaptation of "Little Women." He performed as Henrik in "A Little Night Music" at the New York City Opera and the Los Angeles Opera, and has been a guest star on NBC's "Law and Order." As part of Gurwin's visit to WMU, he is spending a week leading classes for students in music theatre performance. Jay Berkow, associate professor of theatre, directs "The Holiday Cabaret," with musical direction and accompaniment by the theatre department's Jamie Reed. The cast of the production includes WMU seniors Antonio Royce Copeland, Liz Emmerling, Jeffrey Fauver, Lindsay Foreman, Amy Persons, Adam Steiner and Christine Werny. The production staff includes David Alpert, stage manager; Palmer Jankens, sound designer; and Zachary Law, lighting designer. Tickets for "The Holiday Cabaret" range from $16 to $7 and may be purchased by calling (269) 387-6222 or visiting the University Theatre Ticket Office weekdays noon to 5 p.m. Box offices at Miller Auditorium and the Epic Center also sell tickets to University Theatre productions.
